Wineries in Cromwell

Mora (Latin) means to linger, to take pause. A second-generation New Zealand family-ownedcompany, Mora Wines is the latest wine venture for the Skeggs Group, which also produces the internationally successful RUA brand. Mora includes the small production Single Site Series, and a Central Otago range including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Rose and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as Methode Traditionelle wines. All wines are crafted from Mora's 90 hectares of established vineyards in the Bannockburn and Pisa sub-regions, and is sold exclusively through Mora Wines & Artisan Kitchen at Lake Hayes (formerly Akarua Wines & Kitchen By Artisan), via the Mora website and a new Mora wine club.

Charcoal Gully vineyard produced premium grapes. Wines produced include Sallys Pinch Pinot Noir and Gewurztraminer. The vineyard was sold in 2021. Aged wines are still available for purchase.

When Bannockburn wife and husband Kerry Stainton-Herbert and Doug Herbert first stood on their rabbit and briar infested plot overlooking the historic ruins of the once flourishing Stewart Town gold mining settlement, they knew the land would produce fabulous Pinot Noir. The rest as they say is history of a different kind. The first vintage was not produced until 2014 which gave both vintner and the wine makers time to understand the terroir of this small, but unique vineyard. That year The Bounder Pinot Noir was born.
