Durie Hill Elevator

About Durie Hill Elevator
Address: 42 Anzac Parade, Tunnel Entrance - Upper Landing is at 2 Blyth St, Durie Hill, Whanganui 4500
The Durie Hill Elevator is a public transport service that provides easy walking and cycling access between Whanganui city and Durie Hill. It was completed in 1919 and enabled the development of the Durie Hill Garden Suburb, first conceptualised by Christchurch architect, and garden suburb proponent, Samuel Hurst Seager. Still staffed by an operator and used for public transport, The Elevator is also a popular visitor and local attraction for it's history, technology and views - both from the top of the Elevator Tower, and from the adjacent Durie Hill War Memorial Tower. The Elevator is owned and maintained by Whanganui District Council, and operated by Whanganui Connection.
