Forrester Gallery

The Forrester Gallery resides amongst bold multi-storied Corinthian columns and iconic Oamaru limestone. The 19th century neoclassical bank building was converted into an art gallery in 1983 from its previous use as the Bank of New South Wales, today housing an extensive art collection including works of national significance that reflect the essence of the Waitaki district. The gallery offers a variety of historical collection and contemporary rotating exhibitions by local, national, and international artists. The former Bank of New South Wales is a Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Category 1 Historic Place. The Forrester Gallery was named after John Meggett Forrester, who left a bequest establish a public art gallery.
