Bay City Gym has an interesting history that dates back to the 1960's. A gym was started in Dickens street in 1965 by a group of business men called the Silhouette Health Studio. In 1970 it was sold and became the YMCA. Over the years it started to outgrow the premises in the CBD and in 1986 after extensive planning it was moved to the current premises in Latham Street. In 1998 it was privately brought from the YMCA. Since 1998 it has had 2 previous owners and now is owned and operated by Chrissy and Hamish Newall. Bay City Gym remains a strong standing community gym in Napier.
