Pukaha National Wildlife Centre has been part of New Zealand's conservation story since the 1960's. Among its captive breeding programmes are whio, pateke, kakariki, tuturuatu (shore plover) and kiwi. Pukaha is also home to Manukura the white kiwi (in the Nocturnal House) and Kahurangi the kokako (in aviary 02). Pukaha is wheelchair accessible and has the Kaka Cafe onsite. Children will enjoy the interactive gallery, play rata tree, the theatre and the new Te Wahi Weta area that contains the Giant Weta sculpture.
